3D Automotive animation

Project Overview
This is a self-initiated technical study by Haraay Design Studio, Pune an automotive 3D modelling exercise focused on modelling discipline, retopology, and clean topology construction, benchmarked against premium automotive surfacing standards. Automotive surfaces are the recognised benchmark for 3D modelling craft: large continuous panels, precise reflection behaviour, and complex curvature transitions where any topology flaw becomes immediately visible in the reflections. This study was undertaken to develop and demonstrate modelling capability at that standard.




Our Approach
Haraay treated this as a pure modelling discipline exercise. The work focused on edge flow planning before construction, building topology that follows the natural curvature logic of the form rather than fighting it. Retopology was used to convert dense surface data into clean, efficient quad-based geometry that holds silhouette accuracy while remaining light enough for animation and real-time use. Reflection testing was used throughout as the diagnostic because on automotive surfaces, reflections are where errors become undeniable.




Outcome & Impact
The automotive 3D study developed and demonstrated Haraay's modelling and retopology discipline at the standard automotive surfacing demands. For clients, this matters because clean topology is the foundation everything else in 3D depends on animation, deformation, real-time performance, and render quality all degrade when the underlying geometry is poorly constructed. This is the craft layer beneath the visible work.
